Indications:
Non – obstructive constipation
purgative (in high doses)
PHARMACOLOGIC ACTIONS
The ß-linked glucosides ( sennosides ) are not absorbed in the upper gut ; they are converted by the bacteria of the large intestine into rhein anthrone(1,8 dihydroxyanthracene derivative which is the active metabolite) and by stimulation of peristaltic contractions resulting in accelerated colonic transit , thus reducing fluid absorption .
ACTIVE INGREDIENTS
Each 5ml contains: 225mg Senna liquid extract (equivalent to 7.5mg Sennoside B)
ADMINISTRATION AND DOSAGE
Shake well befor using .
– Children 2 to 6 years of age: 2.5 – 5ml (0.5 – 1 teaspoon) daily .
– Children 6 to 12 years of age: 5-10ml (1 – 2 teaspoons) daily .
– Adults and children over 12 years of age : 10 – 20ml (2 – 4 teaspoons) daily.
INTERACTIONS
There is an interaction with cardiac glycosides and Anti-arrhythmic agents.
ADVERSE REACTIONS
It may cause yellow – brown or reddish discoloration of urine which is not clinically significant .
Senna may cause cramps and abdominal pain. spearmint oil is used for its antispasmodic and carminative effect in this medicine.
CONTRAINDICATIONS & PRECAUTIONS
As for all laxatives , it should not be given in cases of :
abdominal Pain with unknown origin , intestinal obstruction , acute inflammatory intestinal diseases or appendicitis .
PREGNANCY AND LACTATION
Avoid during pregnancy and lactation .
TIPS
Use for more than 2 weeks requires your prescribe or healthcare professional advice .
The medicine takes place after a latency period of 8-12 hours.
In daily use , the cause of the constipation should be investigated .
Administer before bedtime with one or two glasses of water.
