Antidepressant (Mild to moderate depression)

Mild to moderate depression ( and pediatric depression ) , Premenstrual syndrome , Menopausal symptoms , Fatigue or loss of energy  , Pediatric nocturnal incontinence , Anxiety , Improvement of “ sleep quality “ , Improvement of cognitive ability , Seasonal affective disorder .

Nervoxin is effective in the treatment of mild to moderate depression .

The efficacy of Hypericum (2 × 0.5 mg Hypericin) , Imipramine (150 mg) , and Fluoxetine (2 × 10 mg) , was found to be equivalent to both mild and moderate episodes , however the overall rate of side effects is more favourable for Hypericum ext.  Serotonin reuptake inhibition and monoamine oxidase inhibition have been reported. The antidepressant mechanism of hypericum extract’s action may be due to effects on many neurotransmitters including serotonin, norepinephrine , dopamine , L- glutamate and GABA . There may be some central nervous system effects related to treatment of depression including improvement of mental performance, concentration, memory and receptivity. The drug not only prevents a further reduction in cognitive ability of depressed patients, but also improves it. The drug does not appear to change alertness or have sedative effect. Hypericum ext.

reduces anxiety symptoms (tension, worry, irritability, muscle tightness, bruxism and insomnia), The anxiolytic effect of the drug maybe due to benzodiazepine receptor activation. A notable improvement in symptoms of depression, anxiety, restlessness and psychogetative disorders in children (ages 1 to 12 years) is noted within 2 to 6 weeks. Treatment is well tolerated and no adverse effects are reported . Marked improvement of subjective and physical symptoms of menopause was observed in pre – and post menopausal women following a 12- week treatmet with the drug. the average total MRS (Menopause Rating Scale) score- including changes in libido , dryness of vagina , and urinary complaints- fell from marked intensity of symptoms to slight intensity . Hypericum significantly reduces symptoms of premenstrual syndrome after one cycle of treatment .

Slow wave sleep (sleep stages 3 and 4) increases from 1.5% to 6% within 4 weeks. This increase has been postulated by several investigators to be a significant contributor to the antidepressant effect of the drug .
