Pharmacological and Clinical Notes of C-Lax Syrup

Oral Senna, when used appropriately and for short-term, is an FDA-approved over-the-counter medication for adults and children over 2 years of age. The active constituents of Senna, without being absorbed in the small intestine, are converted by colonic bacteria into the active metabolite (1,8-dihydroxyanthracene derivatives), which increase intestinal peristalsis and thereby accelerate the transit of bowel contents.
In a clinical study conducted under the supervision of Golestan University of Medical Sciences, the efficacy of C-Lax syrup was compared with polyethylene glycol for bowel preparation prior to colonoscopy. It was demonstrated that consumption of three bottles of C-Lax syrup, divided into two doses 12 hours apart (1.5 bottles every 12 hours), 24 hours before colonoscopy, has a cleansing effect comparable to the intake of 20 glasses of 250 mL polyethylene glycol (one glass every 15 minutes over 24 hours).

C-Lux Syrup "Frequently Asked Questions"

The senna plant (Cassia angustifolia or Cassia acutifolia) has traditionally been used as a natural remedy to relieve constipation. When formulated as a syrup, senna can provide several benefits by stimulating bowel movements and helping to relieve what is commonly described as a “sluggish bowel.” Below, we explain how senna works and its potential benefits.

1Who is C-Lax Syrup suitable for?
C-Lax Syrup by Dineh can be used by people ranging from children 2 years of age to adults (Children’s Laxative).
2What are the benefits of C-Lax Syrup?
The liquid extract of senna used in Dineh C-Lax Syrup passes through the small intestine without being absorbed and interacts with bacteria in the large intestine. This leads to increased peristaltic movement of the colon, helping improve the passage of intestinal contents.
3Natural Laxative Action
Senna leaves contain natural compounds called sennosides. After ingestion, these compounds are converted by bacteria in the large intestine into active metabolites, such as rhein anthrone, which stimulate the intestinal tissue.
4Stimulation of Bowel Movement (Peristalsis)
This stimulation, when senna is used appropriately, promotes contraction of the muscles of the large intestine and accelerates the movement of stool through the bowel. This action can be particularly helpful when bowel movements are slow or the bowel is described as “sluggish.”
5Rapid Action and Convenient Dosing
The syrup formulation allows for accurate measurement and convenient dose adjustment. Many people prefer syrup to capsules or herbal teas because it is easier to take and may have a more acceptable taste, which can help ensure that the correct amount is taken.
6Antispasmodic Effect (Reduction of Abdominal Discomfort)
By stimulating bowel movements, senna leaf extract may help relieve bloating, abdominal cramps, and discomfort associated with constipation, contributing to greater abdominal comfort.
7A Natural Alternative to Synthetic Laxatives
For people who prefer to avoid synthetic laxatives, senna leaf syrup may be considered a natural option. Many people prefer herbal medicines because they perceive them as gentler and more compatible with the body's natural processes.
8A Suitable Diet for Relieving Constipation
Although senna leaf syrup can help relieve constipation on its own, it is generally better to adopt a broader approach that includes the following:
Adequate fluid intake: Drinking enough water can support the laxative effect and help prevent dehydration.
Diet: Eating a fiber-rich diet, including fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, can help maintain regular bowel function.
Lifestyle: Regular physical activity and daily exercise can help naturally stimulate digestion and bowel movements.
